For my five models for Instructional Design, I chose SAM, KEMP, ASSURE, ADDIE, and Dick and Carey. Unfortunately, there is no one model that fits all approaches and which models you select varies on the project or assignment you are trying to complete and the guidelines and requirements of said project. With that said, those models do have one thing in common and some of them do share certain features. Some focuses, to me, that make up Instructional designs are flexibility and adaptability, technology integration, learning engagement with an emphasis, and project stability. Below compares and contracts the five selected models and the focuses that I believe make Instructional Design.
Approach to Instructional Design:
- SAM- Rapid development
- KEMP: flexible and learning centered
- ASSURE:Technology enhanced engagement
- ADDIE:Distinct phases usually sequential and systematically created
- Dick and Carey: Comprehensive with emphasis on alignment and evaluation
Flexibility and adaptability:
- SAM and KEMP are the most highly flexible and accommodating to learner variability
- ADDIE and ASSURE: are structured frameworks that define each stage but at the same time ban be adapted to specific needs
- Dick and Carey: Planning is structured and alignment can sometimes require adjustments for said flexibility
Technology Integration:
- SAM,KEMP,ADDIE, and Dick and Carey: Blend technology based on requirements but don’t emphasize like ASSURE does
- ASSURE: focuses mainly on integrating technology
Learning Engagement:
- SAM: stakeholder feedback, enhanced engagement, and collaboration are required parts of a project
- KEMP and ASSURE: A strong emphasis is placed on learner engagement and strong participation
- ADDIE and Dick and Carey: step by step design and evaluation. Which is actually indirectly impacting learner engagement by using a plan that is structured
Project Stability:
- SAM: Rapid iteration and flexibility
- ASSURE: Technology integration and interactive learning focused
- KEMP:learner motivated and personalized learning experience is the main focus in projects using KEMP.
- Dick and Carey: Detailed planning, systematic evaluation , and alignment with objectives
- ADDIE:Due to it’s step by step/systematic approach, ADDIe projects are applicable across different projects types
